There are reward credit cards that earn airline miles, cash, hotel points and even free gas. To determine the card that will work best for you will ultimately depend on your shopping and travel habits.

Most often the airline specific cards give you a better conversion of purchases to miles over the general cards, so make sure to check the reward schedule to determine what will give you the best return. The same thing applies to hotel rewards cards. Most hotel cards will give you bonus miles when using their card at their hotels, so be on the look out for those if you tend to favor one hotel over another.

Depending on the card you choose, you should definitely avoid any with an annual fee. There are so many free rewards cards out there, it doesn’t make sense to pay an annual fee to carry that card around. Unless you use the card so much that the rewards outweigh the fees, you should be able to find a free card that gives you the rewards of your choice.

Make sure to review all the terms and conditions of the cards to look for hidden fees that may hinder the reward return.
